The future of medicine is rooted in the integral science -- the study of complex systems like weather, the stock market, ecological systems and your body. These systems are all orderly, lawful systems, but because of the large number of variables have been beyond our ability to apply traditional mathematical models. This all changed with computers and has fundamentally altered how we understand the world and ourselves.
The yellow and orange rings inside the red square is an actual photograph of the Belousov-Zhabotinski (B-Z) Reaction. Mix the right chemicals and the designs occur spontaneously and change in regular patterns. This is a self organizing system, much like your body and the natural world of which you are a part. This realization leads to a radical departure from conventional healthcare. It is the science behind the concept that your body is meant to heal itself. I believe that integral science is the key to uniting science and spiritual truth, traditional healing systems and the future medicine based on integral science.
The reaction oscillates back and forth between different colored states in rings which move in rhythmic wave patterns. It has became the model for studying self-organizing
systems and was instrumental in the work of Ilya Prigogne, for which he
received a Nobel Prize.
You are a self organizing system. Your body is
designed to maintain thousands of complex variables such as blood
pressure, heart rate, breathing, digestion, muscle tone, and precise
levels of hundreds of hormones and chemical messengers without your
conscious knowledge. In addition your body is meant to heal itself.
I
chose the image of the B-Z reaction as a symbol for my practice because
it has become an icon of Integral Science. I believe that Integral
Science provides the foundation for an emerging Integral Medicine.
Integral Science is based on studies of complex systems. "Some examples
of such complex systems or phenomena are: The economy, the
stock-market, the weather, ant colonies, earthquakes, traffic jams,
living organisms, ecosystems, turbulence, epidemics, the immune system,
river networks, landslides, zebra stripes, seashell patterns, and
heartbeats." Complexity, A Course, by Rajesh R. Parawi.
Integral Science begins to explain traditional healing systems such as
acupuncture and Ayurvedic medicine, and newer healing systems such as
homeopathy, kinesiology and what is loosely termed energy medicine, all
of which attempt to look at whole systems in all their complexity.
The Future of Health is Energy Medicine ...
... The Future is Now
Integral science
is an exciting development that crosses all scientific disciplines. It
includes the study of systems, such as your body but also including all
aspects of physical reality from subatomic particles to galaxies, that,
in addition to being self organizing, are both regular and irregular.
We can call these chaotic systems, not in the sense that they are
random, but that there is an order that is the sum of so many variables
that, until recently, we had no tools to adequately study them.
Computer modeling along with advances in physics and mathematics,
allows to generate models which allow us to study and predict how these
systems behave.
Integral
science is already the basis of many practical advances in all areas of
science from ecology to home electronics. We use fractals and fractal
analysis to compress computer data, screen for cancer on mammograms and
draw virtual characters for Hollywood films.
Integral science promises to provide the scientific underpinning of
an emerging integral medicine. I believe that Professional Kinesiology
Practice is a leading edge technology in the global emergence of this
new approach to health care.
To learn more about how integral science is changing everything, I highly recommend the book After the Clockwork Universe
by Sally Goerner, a friend and patient. The following link will take
you to the Integral Age website where you can read a chapter from this
book. http://www.integralage.org/scripts/querytitles.asp?author=goerner

Complex Systems in Clinical Nutrition Your body is a miraculous, self-assembling and self- healing system.
Health issues can be thought of as problems in system control. Recent
clinical nutrition theory identifies several basic problems in control
that involve multiple body systems. For this reason theses issues
often fall through the cracks in conventional medical treatment.
Solving Chronic Health Problems If you have a
broken leg or acute pneumonia, conventional medicne is definitely
called for, but it has had much less success with chronic diseases.
Many people "fall through the cracks," of conventional health care,
receiving increasingly toxic treatment aimed at supressing symptoms
rather than restoring health.
Why You N eed Alternative Healthcare We Don't Have a Health Care System, we have a disease care system and
it's not working. Americans spend more than any other country on health care and have the worst outcomes of any major industrialized
country. The medical system in not only an economic disaster but has
been fundamentally corrupted by its financial ties to the drug and
insurance industries.

Ilya Prigogine was a Russian-born naturalized Belgian physical chemist and Nobel Laureate noted for his work on dissipative structures, complex systems, and irreversibility. The Belousav-Zhabotinskii reaction led to his understanding of self organizing systems and their importance to understanding all life and nature, for which he recieved the Nobel Prize. Ken Wilber is the most widely read philosopher of our era. His work seeks to reconcile all points of view including the mystic and the scientist, using the uderstandings of complexity and integral science.
