Clinical Nutrition represents a genuine revolution in healthcare. I have been practicing nutrition for 20 years and keep up with cutting edge developments by attending seminars monthly and reading and studying extensively. I carry a wide selection of professional quality supplements. You can trust that what's on the label is in the bottle and that these are products you cannot find elsewhere.
Just eating your greens and taking your vitamins may not be enough to stay healthy anymore. Clinical nutrition has emerged to take on these difficult challenges and help you feel better, look better and have more energy.
A Revolution in Clinical Nutrition
Finding Solutions for the complex diseases of the 21st century.
We now know a great deal about the mechanisms behind many chronic disease processes. These include blood sugar dysregulation, high stress hormone levels, inflammation and increased cytokines, allergic and autoimmune responses, dysbiosis, altered blood brain barrier, and others. We also have specific information on how these syndromes can be modified by diet, exercise and non-toxic nutrient. These conditions do not typically respond to drugs. The drugs that are prescribed for them typically solve a short term problem or correct a lab finding but accelerate the disease process in the long run.

Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis
Look for problems before they reach the disease state. We can use standard blood chemistry panels to find evidence of the processes underlying chronic disease and correct them by natural means, hopefully before the damage is done. Drugs may be necessary in some situations but in the long term helping your body function normally is the better way. more...
Applied Kinesiology
I have found applied kinesiology to be the quickest, and most efficient means of finding the source of a patient's problems. It does not stand alone, but is an extension of traditional diagnostic tools including taking a good history, physical examination and lab work. Many times it is difficult to know where to start. Kinesiology quickly gives us information more...
Making the Best New Scientific Research Available
There is a huge amount of new research which is completely changing how we understand many common disease processes. Much of this information has not been put into practice, often because the solutions that make sense do not fit into the old pharmaceutical paradigm, or the drugs that do address the issues can be extremely toxic. I spend thousands of hours reading, searching the internet, going to classes and conferring with other practitioners to bring you the latest information on products and techniques to solve your health problems.
Experience
Few professionals learn these skills in school, because the schools do not keep up with the latest developments. Textbooks are already 10 years out of date. Chiropractors are the only nationally licensed professionals to receive training in clinical nutrition. Even now, medical schools offer NO or minimal nutritional training. This is a field that is developing at light speed. It takes considerable time and a great deal of study to get up to speed, even with the background of an excellent professional education. I am constantly taking classes, reading books, listening to tapes and researching new treatment strategies and I have been doing this for 20 years.

Understanding Complex Systems
Many approaches to health take a cookbook approach. Conventional medicine is based on naming the disease and prescribing the standard treatment based on that name. But our bodies are much more complex than that. Symptoms are the result of loss of regulation that crosses the boundaries of traditional thinking. For example, hormonal imbalances can result from mental stress; immune system problems can be triggered by problems in the digestive system; most cardiovascular disease is caused by poor regulation of blood sugar. Treating at the level of symptoms ignores the real systemic level issues which must be addressed. Anything less is painting over rust. see Complex Systems in Clinical Nutrition.

Thinking Outside the Box
Most of my patients have already been to several other practitioners. I know that the only way to solve their problem is to go deeper. I listen to their story and listen to my own intuition and put that together with all the information and experience I have gathered to come up with innovative solutions. The integral approach includes looking at your health situation from all angles, as an integral system, finding connections where none may have been suspected. see Integral Medicine.

Self Care
When it comes right down to it, health is a do-it yourself project. Unfortunately much conventional advice is outdated, inaccurate or not right for your particular condition. And many of us need help overcoming self sabotage programs. The proper diet that fits your body needs, the right kind and amount of exercise and tools to handle the stress of life are the foundation of health. Supplements and other interventions will ultimately fail without these foundations.

Professional Grade Supplements
Diet is always best, but when your body is out of balance, the right supplements can make a dramatic difference. I carry a wide variety of well-researched supplements, from professional grade suppliers. Many of them are hard to find anywhere else. You can't expect to get better on retail store supplements. Many studies show they either do not contain the active ingredients listed on the label or may actually contain harmful ingredients.
Professional grade supplements:
- Come from companies with a long history of reliability and quality control. They have their own in-house laboratories and perform rigorous tests for quality and purity both before and after manufacture.
- Provide new products based on current research that are often not found in health food stores.
- It takes time for a practitioner to learn and develop experience with specific supplements. These are products that I know work.
The Foundations of Nutrition
Finding a diet that works for you is an important step in regaining health. We can help you based on Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis, questionnaires and history taking and applied kinesiology. The best treatment is eating real food that is right for you. Change can be stressful and we offer help with that too.
Ideal food is not always available and many of our food sources are degraded or adulterated. For example the level of minerals in vegetables has decreased due to soil depletion and shipping long distances. Most people require foundational nutrition support for optimal functioning. These may include:
- Omega 3 fatty acids
- A good, natural multi vitamin
- Balanced minerals
Detoxification
It is a fact of modern life that we are exposed to high levels of environmental toxins:
- Heavy metals in air, food and water - Mercury, Cadmium, Lead, Arsenic, etc.
- Persistent pesticides and herbicides
- Fire retardants, plasticizers, silicone lubricants, etc.
- Chemicals produced by water treatment
- Drugs taken directly and indirectly through water supply contamination
- Chemicals in cosmetics, personal care products and household cleaners
Your body has methods of handling toxic chemicals but the total burden may exceed your capacity to eliminate all these toxic burdens. Scientific detoxification includes supporting the natural systems your body has to eliminate these toxins.
There is better way.
All drugs block normal body processes. Most act as metabolic poisons, stopping specific enzymes. For example, statin drugs block an enzyme called HMG Cop-A reductase. Unfortunately this enzyme is also necessary for your body to make Coenzyme Q-10 (CoQ 10). This is thought to cause the problems with muscle pain and dysfunction. All drugs have side effects. They can be useful and lifesaving but they are short-term solutions with long term negative consequences. In almost all cases, understanding the physiological process allows us to restore normal function by natural means.
Modern medicine is based on using pharmaceuticals (drugs) to change cellular chemistry. There are only two basic things a drug can do: stop a process, by poisoning an enzyme, or There is another way, using the same science, to support the body in re-establishing health. It is based on new science and traditional experience with basic elements of diet, herbs and specific nutrients.
This field is growing so rapidly that it is easy to be confused. Every day there are new studies, new herbs, new stories of miracle compounds. And last year's nutritional recommendations are often completely reversed this year.
I spend a great deal of my time studying nutrition and the latest studies and supplements as they become available. My goal is to sort through this material and offer you useful and sound information.
In addition to new products, there is an enormous expansion in the range of physiologically based laboratory tests available. These tests are mainly offered only in a handful of specialty labs. Most routine laboratory tests are only looking for pathology, which is what conventional medicine treats. The new labs look for markers of dysfunction, often before it has reached the disease state.
Kinesiology is another alternative which has proven equally as effective as laboratory testing to determine both the nature of the dysfunction causing symptoms and the probable best treatment.
So, like medicine, clinical nutrition is based in science, in a deep understanding of biochemistry and physiology, and on the latest research. Unlike conventional medicine, it is not as much focused on disease as on restoring normal physiology. Lawrence Le Shan wrote a classic book called The Mechanic and the Gardener. Conventional medicine is much more mechanical in it's approach. It tends to be more successful in handling crises but much worse in dealing with chronic and functional problems which are now the major causes of disease, disability and death in our society.
The Future of Medicine is Here
This revolution requires a very different style of medical education, training and practice. At this point the medical schools and the medical establishment is firmly committed to pharmacological medicine and is financially bound to the drug industry. This is a world wide paradigm shift and America is not necessarily the leader, certainly not at the institutional level. Even in America, people are spending more out of pocket for "alternative medicine," than they are for conventional medicine. The writing is on the wall.
I have spent thousands of hours studying in seminars, reading books, journal articles, searching online for new information and sorting through thousands of therapies, supplements and treatment systems.
What I offer is the distillation of a huge amount of learning and effort to bring, what I believe, is cutting edge treatment. This does not mean million dollar equipment. It means finding the very best treatment procedures and trusted sources for effective supplements. It means taking the time to do what is often detective work, finding the source of the problem. It means working with you so you understand what you can do to help yourself and why it is important.
So it requires a real investment in research and education. And a practice model that allows time to work with patients.
Difficult cases are often like peeling through the layers of an onion. The body has layers of compensation for problems that may have begun many years ago. On the other hand, with this information we can begin to reverse the process and restore real health.

Solving Chronic Health Problems If you have a broken leg or acute pneumonia, conventional medicine is definitely called for, but it has had much less success with chronic diseases. Many people "fall through the cracks," of conventional health care, receiving increasingly toxic treatment aimed at suppressing symptoms rather than restoring health.
Dysbiosis is the undiagnosed disease of our time Your body is an ecological system. In the large intestine alone there are normally over 500 different identified species of organisms. Our bodies are more like a coral reef, with many non-human species meant to live in balance. Many factors in modern life can throw this balance into disorder. This state of disorder is called dysbiosis.
How does Applied Kinesiology Work I use Applied Kinesiology extensively in my practice. I find that it is the quickest method for determining what is wrong with a patient and which treatment is most likely to be effective. It is only one tool among many but ca, in my experience, cut through to the core of many issues. I have seen it verified by conventional imaging and laboratory results enough that I have come to rely on it as a first line of diagnosis.

Complex Systems in Clinical Nutrition Your body is a miraculous, self-assembling and self- healing system. Health issues can be thought of as problems in system control. Recent clinical nutrition theory identifies several basic problems in control that involve multiple body systems. For this reason theses issues often fall through the cracks in conventional medical treatment.

Integral Medicine. The yellow and orange rings inside the red square is a photograph of the Belousov-Zhabotinski (B-Z) Reaction. Mix the right chemicals and the designs occur spontaneously and change in regular patterns. This is a self organizing system, much like your body and the natural world of which you are a part. This realization leads to a radical departure from conventional healthcare. It is the science behind the concept that your body is meant to heal itself. I believe that integral science is the key to uniting science and spiritual truth, traditional healing systems and the future medicine based on integral science.

Why You Need Alternative Healthcare We Don't Have a Health Care System, we have a disease care system and it's not working. Americans spend more than any other country on health care and have the worst outcomes of any major industrialized country. The medical system in not only an economic disaster but has been fundamentally corrupted by its financial ties to the drug and insurance industries.
