Tat For Weight Loss

Using TAT® for Weight Loss and Maintenance with Pat Seddon

TAT® is an exciting technique for relieving stress over any issue.

TAT® has been shown to be an effective approach to weight loss in an NIH study done at Kaiser Permanente of California.   Pat Seddon, my office manager, will be offering an ongoing weekly small group using this technique.  Currently it will be meeting Wednesdays at 12:30 PM. If you are at all interested please call the office and talk to Pat.  Other times are possible for both group and individual sessions may be arranged.

More about TAT®

TAT® stands for Tapas Acupressure Technique.  TAT® has been used successfully for: addictions, allergies, animals, depression, eating disorders, natural disasters, OCD, physical conditions, rape and sexual abuse, relationships, sleep disorders and nightmares, achieving success and abundance, trauma, and weight loss.

TAT® is a simple technique that you can learn to do on your own.  At the same time ongoing support can be much more effective and can help keep you on track.  This is not psychotherapy.  You do not need to share any of the issues that come up with you although you may if you wish.  It is not even necessary for you to know exactly what caused the emotional distress you are experiencing.  TAT® is about clearing the energy - that is the felt sense that something is wrong or distressing - that keeps the problem going.

How does TAT® work with weight loss?

There are three basic issues with weight loss: 1. Knowing what to do, that is having a realistic plan for eatingguilty_eating.jpg and exercise.  We find that this is the easiest and many people already know what they should be doing. 2. Handling the issues of food addiction, stress eating, cravings and simply making the right choices day after day.  TAT® can help you with these issues.  3. Other physical issues which we address in the Weight Loss Resistance program (see below).

Pat Seddon, LMBT, has trained directly with Tapas Flemming, the developer of TAT®.  She has used TAT® with great success both personally and with her clients and my patients.

Other Energy Psychology Techniques

Pat also offers EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique, another acupressure based stress relief technique.  Dr. Manlove has found this technique very valuable for patients because it is easy to learn, you can do it on your own or with coaching, and I have never seen or heard of a bad reaction. In addition to these techniques, Dr. Manlove uses two other energetic emotional clearing techniques: PKP and ART.  PKP is a healing system developed by the New Zealand physician, Bruce Dewe, MD, and his wife, Joan, which addresses a wide variety of issues.  It is based on balancing the energy around any goal chosen by the patient.  ART, or Awareness  Release Technique, is the most direct approach to clearing energy blocks in the body.  It is based on the work of Robert Jaffe, MD.  In it the practitioner simply "holds the space" and offers minimal coaching to assist the patient in opening to what ever is stuck energetically.  This technique actually puts into practice the teachings of Ekhart Tolle about clearing negative energy.

Additional Help for Weight Loss Resistance

For some people there may be other, more physical,  issues, which need to be addressed, such as hormonal imbalances including stress hormones, thyroid, and sex hormones, neurotransmitter imbalances, specific nutritional needs, dysbiosis and detoxification.  If needed, Dr. Manlove can address these issues.  There are also a number of nutritional and herbal aids to overcoming cravings and blood sugar handling issues, which can supplement the TAT® work.
