I graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Bloomington, Minnesota, now Northwestern Health Sciences University. I have been in private practice since 1989, first in Durham, where I grew a conventional chiropractic practice centered on the structural side of the Triangle of Health , although I have always used acupuncture and nutrition. In 1997, I moved to Chapel Hill where I joined Alan Spanos, MD at Blue Ridge Clinical Associates, a multidisciplinary medical practice specializing in chronic pain. During that time I continued and intensified my study of acupuncture, kinesiology, nutrition, energy psychology and many related subjects and began the synthesis which led to my current practice. I now have a patient-centered practice in Chapel Hill.

My undergraduate work was primarily at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. I lived at Telluride House which was an amazing place at an amazing time, a house of people "commited to seek the truth," and it was the late sixties. Professor Alan Bloom, known for his criticism of liberal studies, was there. The former Undersecretary of Defense, Paul Wolfowitz, was a house mate. After my Freshman year I spent a year as something of an exchange student with Telluride's sister institution, Deep Springs College in the high desert east of the Sierra Nevada, just inside California from the Nevada border. While there I enjoyed backpacking in the High Sierra and down into the Grand Canyon, some rock climbing, geology, and cowboying, including a very brief time on the back of a wild steer.

At Cornell I pursued a course of study centered on the "Great Books" and then majored in cultural anthropology, specifically native religious system where I studied with Victor Turner,.a charismatic professor. My interest was in how myth and symbol shape our reality. I completed my undergraduate education at Winona State University, where I picked up a minor in chemistry and received a wonderful education in organic chemistry and biochemistry which still serves me.

I have lived in several interesting communities. I have been a silversmith, a chimneysweep, a carpenter and an organic farmer in western Wisconsin along the upper Mississippi, near Winona, Minnesota (right).

My postgraduate education includes extensive training with the Motion Palpation Institute whcih I credit with teaching me the highest level of skill in adjusting the spine and all the extremities; many courses and endless research in nutrition; the full Touch for Health and Professional Kinesiology trianing programs including the Touch for Health Instructor Training Program; Certification by the Acupuncture Society of America; and over 200 hours of class time with the International College of Applied Kinesiology/

My current interests include paleoarcheology and human emergence, nutritional biochemistry, integral science, and spirituality. I like to work out, hike in the woods and meditate. I spend too much time on the internet and I designed and developed this site (with a little technical help.) I try to walk my talk so that when I talk to a patient about exercise, diet and self care, hopefully, I am doing it myself. I have four children, two of whom are launched and one lives with me. I've just returned to rock climbing and am flirting with Latin dance.

My purpose in life is to transform the health care system of the planet.
I am convinced that the there is a better way.  The American healthcare system is broken -- financially, morally, intellectually.  It is polluting the planet and bankrupting our nation.  We can do better.
